Dealing With Grief

In my line of work and also with my own personal experience, I fully understand the difficulties in dealing with grief. Being a psychic comes with great responsibility which I take very seriously as I understand I am speaking with people who are bereaved. Through the years I have seen people of all ages deal with grief in so many varying ways. I believe the first and foremost thing to do is to ensure that you get the relevant help and support that you need from the outset. For this reason I wanted to give you some guidance on not just how to identify grief in yourself and others but what to do when a passing occurs and how to deal with what happens next.

When we lose someone it can feel as if we are falling into a dark hole. People tell us that “things will get better with time” but the honest truth is that you will never get over losing that person. What you will do is learn to live your life and move on whilst keeping them treasured in your memory. Grief can hit us at different times, some will instantly feel it, some may start off in a state of shock and the reality does not set in for a week or even months later. There is no set routine with grief and so it is important to remember that it not only affects our mental state but also that it affects our physical state too.

Grief can physically manifest itself within a person when they have experienced a bereavement. When we experience heightened levels of emotional stress our bodies take the strain. We can never prepare ourselves for something as devastating as the loss of a loved one even if someone has been terminally ill as we can never comprehend it will actually feel when it happens. Our bodies can be a key way in indicating how we’re feeling at times such as this. For instance our immune system may slow down which can make us more susceptible to viruses

Spotting The Signs Of Grief

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to grief, some people may exhibit or feel all the common signs of grief where as other feel very few. It is important to also notice the changes in children as well as they can feel grief just as much as adults but are less likely to have the proper skills to know how to deal with it. Signs can be:

  • A change in personality – becoming introverted, quiet or going the other way and over compensating to prove they are ok by becoming an extrovert.
  • Not eating at all or over eating.
  • An inability to concentrate or complete simple tasks.
  • Mood swings.
  • Children could start complaining of tummy pains or wet the bed when they have not done this before.
  • Disruption in sleeping patterns with either oversleeping or insomnia.
  • Unexpected or unpredictable crying.
  • Feelings of guilt, anger and / or denial that the loss has occurred.
  • Talking about the deceased or how they died excessively or being preoccupied constantly by them.
  • A hollow feeling in the stomach.
  • Lack of energy and sometimes a weakness in muscles.

What To Do Next

When someone is grieving they tend to first of all feel utterly shocked and perhaps angry and guilty that their loved one has gone. They’ll feel that they can’t remember the sound of their voice, the colour of their eyes and all the other things you take for granted even if you were just speaking to them the day before. It’s the sudden realisation that they will not be walking through the door again as they would have done before. It is incredibly important that you speak with someone to make sure you are dealing with the grief you are experiencing as soon as you feel comfortable to do it.

To me quite simply death is not the end. When a loved one dies their soul lives on and the memories that we shared remain creating an everlasting tie with them. It is only the body that dies and the soul of the departed will come back to you when you think of them. When we think of our loved ones it is like we are ringing the doorbell to heaven; they hear this and they come to us.

The very reason I believe that we have memories is so we can pull on them and when we do that we bring them back. We had all that time with that loved one to create these memories and create an everlasting tie with them. As I say a thought is a prayer and thinking of our loved ones keeps them alive in our hearts and minds. It is only the body that dies and the soul of the departed will come back to you when you remember them.

Work Of A Psychic

Please remember that the work of a psychic should never take the place of help from health professionals but it is of course your choice if you decide to seek one for comfort. A psychic should be there to provide reassurance that your loved one has moved onto a better place and they should be able to use their ability to show validation in what they believe in with regards to the after life.
