Five Minutes of Calm

Sally Morgan

Dear Friends,

Have you ever reached the end of a busy day and realised you haven’t really stopped for a moment? Your mind is full of things you need to do, your phone keeps pinging, and even when you finally sit down, your thoughts are still racing. This happens to be every day!

Life can feel like that sometimes, can’t it? We’re so busy looking after everyone else, keeping up with our responsibilities and thinking about what comes next that we forget to give ourselves a little breathing space.

But what if I told you that you don’t need an hour of meditation, a peaceful retreat or a complete change of lifestyle to feel a little calmer? Sometimes, just five minutes can make a difference.

So, let’s take a little time together to slow down, clear our minds and reconnect with ourselves.

Find Your Little Moment of Peace

First things first, find somewhere you feel comfortable. It might be your favourite chair, a quiet corner of your home or even a little spot in the garden. You don’t need anything special, and there’s certainly no need to make everything perfect.

Put your phone to one side, get yourself comfortable and allow yourself to pause.

Take a slow, gentle breath in through your nose, and then breathe out naturally. Do this a few times, without forcing anything. Notice how your body feels as you begin to settle.

If your mind wanders off to the shopping list, tomorrow’s appointments or that conversation you keep replaying, don’t worry. That’s what minds do! Simply bring your attention back to your breathing.

Remember, this isn’t about emptying your mind completely. It’s about giving yourself permission to stop for a moment.

Create a Little Calm with Your Senses

One of the simplest ways to feel more present is to notice what’s around you.

What can you hear? Perhaps it’s the birds outside, the sound of the wind or the gentle hum of your home.

What can you feel? Notice the warmth of your hands, your feet resting on the floor or the softness of a blanket around your shoulders.

You might like to light a candle, make a cup of tea or sit beside a window and watch the world go by. These little rituals can become lovely reminders that you don’t always have to be rushing towards the next thing.

If you enjoy spirituality, you could also use this quiet time to reflect on your intentions for the day. Ask yourself, What do I need a little more of today? Perhaps it’s patience, confidence, kindness or simply a little rest.

You don’t need to find a big answer. Just noticing how you feel is enough.

Make Space for Your Inner Voice

When life gets noisy, it can be difficult to hear our own thoughts clearly. Taking a few quiet moments can help us notice our feelings, recognise what has been weighing on our minds and think about what matters most to us.

Some people use this time to pray, meditate or reflect on their spiritual beliefs. Others prefer to write down their thoughts in a journal or simply sit quietly with a cup of tea.

There is no right or wrong way to do it.

If you’re someone who enjoys exploring your intuition, you might find that a little quiet time helps you become more aware of your feelings and instincts. Just remember that not every thought needs an answer, and not every feeling needs to be acted upon straight away.

Sometimes, the kindest thing you can do for yourself is to stop searching for answers and simply allow yourself to be. This is also important if you’re trying to heal from the past, move forward and create a happier and more fulfilling life.

Five Minutes Can Be Enough to Begin

It’s easy to think that looking after ourselves requires a big commitment, but small habits can be just as meaningful. Five minutes in the morning, a quiet pause during your lunch break or a few moments before bed can become a gentle part of your daily routine.

And on days when even five minutes feels difficult, don’t be hard on yourself. Start with one slow breath. That’s a beginning, too.

You might find that these little pauses help you feel more grounded, especially when life feels busy or overwhelming. They won’t make every problem disappear, but they can give you a moment to gather your thoughts and approach the day with a little more care.

A Little Reminder Just for You

Before you carry on with your day, take one final gentle breath. Relax your shoulders, soften your jaw and remind yourself that you don’t have to do everything at once.

You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to take things slowly. And you are allowed to make time for yourself, even when life is busy.

So, why not make a little promise to yourself today? Give yourself five minutes of calm whenever you can, and see how it feels.

Sometimes, the most magical thing we can do is simply stop, take a breath and remember to look after ourselves. If you would like to treat yourself to a psychic reading to get some comfort and empowerment, speak to my gifted psychics today.
